It
is a commonplace to believe that in the Abruzzi region all is within
reach. You can find yourself in the mountains or at the seaside in a
short time or, if you prefer, you can stay all the morning
in the mountains and then spend your afternoon burning into
the sun on the fine sandy beaches of the coastline.
Città
Sant’Angelo is however the ideal resort where you can spend your
evenings and the Bigattiera is actually the best place to spend a
new day on holiday.
It
is difficult to say what you can reach from the Bigattiera but it is
more difficult indeed to say what you can see in the Abruzzi region.
The only way is to ask the tourist what he wishes to visit... be
sure that Abruzzi meet your needs and you can easily reach any place
from Bigattiera.
During
summertime you certainly long to go to the seaside. From the
Bigattiera you can reach the coast in just 15 minutes and you can
moreover choose to see the best of the Abruzzi coast going either
northwards to Silvi Marina, Pineto, Roseto degli Abruzzi, or
southwards starting with the wide beach in Pescara, embellished by a
beautiful pine grove and a well-equipped touristic port, visiting
Francavilla al Mare, Ortona, reaching Fossacesia Marina, where you
can admire the characteristic Trabocchi, a sort of shelves made of
wood and used for fishing.
If
you are instead fond of the countryside and would like to bike
mountain, Città Sant’Angelo offers marvellous greeny promenades.
You can for example walk along the Piomba stream which flows
northward through the town and you can afterwards visit Atri, a
beautiful ancient town, which still has an imposing cathedral. You
must not forget, of course, to have a glance at the Calanchi’s
Wild Park, a waste landscape of the Abruzzi region.
And
now here we are in the mountains. The Corno Grande, part of the Gran
Sasso mountain range, is 2914 metres high, the highest top of the
Appennini. The Campo Imperatore plain is the ideal spot to bike
mountain, to ride on horseback or to take long walks. For the most
rash people, this plain can also be the starting point to reach the
most beautiful tops of the Appennini; they can be apparently
inaccessible and frightful but you can often reach them after very
long walks.
Not
to mention the following National Parks: the Abruzzi, the Gran
Sasso, the Monti della Laga and the Majella ones and all the other
parks and protected areas which make the Abruzzi region a well-known
“Regione dei Parchi”. For those loving “grottos” with their
stalactites and stalagmites, it is moreover possible to visit the
Stiffe and the Cavallone ones.
In
order to finish our virtual trip, we must furthermore mention the
towns and spots where you can see the historical testimonies of the
Abruzzi past. Each single village, town or place has something to
show you, something telling about riding people and rules.
In this beautiful region
you can also enjoy yourself, above all if you stay on the coast:
nice and well-equipped spots allow the visitors to spend their
holidays at their best.
