The
company is named after the blooming activity of the silkworm breeding
which was very intense in Città Sant’Angelo towards the end of the
nineteenth-century and at the early beginning of the twentieth. The Bigattini
are actually little worms used as bait by the fishermen. From here on the
little silkworms were named this way and the company therefore was called
“Bigattiera” by all the inhabitants of the “Contrada”.
Besides all these linguistic curiosities, the Bigattiera has
furthermore a worthy and full of history past, moreover improved by
ancient rural fantasies as well as by its striking architectural structure,
dating back to some centuries. Subsequent buildings has allowed it to
extend little by little and to become the now existing harmonious complex.
The present owner is a descendant of the family who purchased the unit at
the beginning of the XIX century.
